Academy Fellows mentor the students they work with in the residential programme, students’ academics and through extracurricular activities.

Fellows

Every year, we recruit recent graduates who want to share their learning and talent with the Academies. Fellows from universities and colleges around the world take on pastoral roles and contribute to our vibrant community life.

What Do Fellows Do?

This unique fellowship gives each Fellow the opportunity to experience the life and challenges of a top residential school through hands-on learning and work experience. They participate in off-campus field trips and in the many enrichment programmes, such as sports, theatre, music and art. They are involved in our leadership development programme, which includes activities such as Model United Nations or TedX.

As dorm parents, they promote community life and learning. Depending on their interests and the local Academy’s needs, they can also support a department of interest to them, such as admissions and marketing, communications, or university counselling. They can tutor students and even assist in a particular subject area under the mentorship of one of our experienced teacher coaches.

What Do We Look For In a Fellow?

  • Genuine interest in the mission and vision of the Academies and the development of young people.

  • A record of excellent academic performance at university or college.

  • A record of significant involvement in community and residential life at university or college.

  • A record of student leadership, participation in extra-curricular activities such as sports or the arts, and/or a record of community service.

Finding My Place

“Coming out of university, I knew I wanted to work with children and help shape empathetic, responsible global citizens, though I only had a limited idea of how. However, the Aga Khan Academy Hyderabad’s Fellows programme presented a myriad of ways to accomplish what seemed like an idealistic hope I once had. Its flexibility allowed me to grow, experiment and understand different aspects of a working organisation while finding my place within it.

Over the course of a year, I have been a part of the teaching department, the marketing department, the university counselling department, the Student Exchange Programme and the pastoral care department. Fellows of the Academy come out of the experience as not only being experts in one facet but in multiple others. The Academy aims to not only nurture well-rounded, holistic students but staff as well.”
