A holistic education includes plenty of time for sports and physical activity. At AKA Maputo, students enjoy dynamic sports sessions in exceptional facilities, promoting teamwork, fitness and fun.
Explore Sports at AKA Maputo
Students have the chance to try many sports, both competitive and non-competitive. They might train in athletics, do yoga, learn martial arts or join a sports team. In later years they are able to focus on developing expertise in a few areas, taking on leadership and coaching responsibilities.
AKA Maputo’s campus features numerous sports facilities, such as a multi-purpose court for football, basketball and badminton, along with two swimming pools. Tennis courts, a soccer field, a jungle gym for Junior School students, gym facilities and dance rooms for ballet and taekwondo are also available for the students.
An eight-lane swimming pool and equipment enable students to learn and practise their swimming skills.
An expansive tennis court and equipment are available for students to play different ranged sports.
A football and basketball court is available for Junior School students, which is equipped with equipment.
A multipurpose court is available for students, in which students can play basketball, football and badminton.
AKA Maputo’s campus offers open fields for students where they can play football, handball and variety of other games.
AKA Maputo students are exposed to various swimming techniques from trained swimming instructors.
Promoting Passion Through Sports
“In our physical health and education classes at AKA Maputo, we teach students the importance of physical exercise so they can improve their own lives and inspire others. We also promote mental health and cognitive development by showing how physical activity supports physical, psychological and social wellbeing, which is vital for a healthy life.
Students explore different units that expose them to various exercises, helping them design personal plans to reach their goals. During COVID-19, safety measures like social distancing changed how we taught, but we adapted our methods to keep lessons engaging and safe. Despite limited resources, students showed great commitment and joy on returning to campus. Even with precautions, we achieved our goals and supported their overall well-being.”

Finding My Hidden Talent
“I have been a student at AKA Maputo for eight years, having started when I was five years old. Because of the Academy, I was able to identify my favourite sport, which is football. I wasn't interested in sports when I first entered the Academy, but when we first started playing football in our physical health and education classes, I really loved it.
When the Academy opened, there was just one football field and limited equipment. Now there are three fields and many more resources. Football lifts my mood, helps me socialise and make friends. The campus also has facilities for basketball, volleyball, tennis, badminton and other sports. Thanks to the Academy, I have discovered my passions and areas of interest.”
