Meet Sonia Islam, Grade 3 teaching assistant

Sonia Islam was born in Dhaka, Bangladesh and is the Grade 3 teaching assistant at the Aga Khan Academy Dhaka. Prior to joining the Academy, Sonia taught at The Aga Khan School, Dhaka and several other English medium schools around Dhaka.

Sonia aspires to achieve the mission and vision of the Aga Khan Academies by being a role model to students and fostering their strengths and needs.

“I aspire to set positive examples for my students, enact learning practices that foster empathy and develop them holistically,” Sonia said. “I believe in educating young children beyond core academics so that they become more compassionate.”

Sonia loves teaching in the wide-open corridors of the Academy.

“I love teaching in the expansive corridors in front of each class,” Sonia said. “These spaces encourage creativity and allow students to express themselves better.”
