Academic Programme
At AKA Mombasa, we unite the rigorous International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum, the Aga Khan Curricular Strands, an exceptional residential experience and the knowledge, skills and attitudes designed to create globally minded, locally rooted, ethical leaders.
What is Unique About AKA Mombasa?
We offer our students the internationally respected IB programmes of study. This builds a solid core of knowledge and develops open-minded, principled, reflective and inquiring learners.
We weave in the unique Aga Khan Curricular Strands, which help students understand key issues from local and global perspectives, and develop an ethical and pluralistic outlook.
Our students are supported to put the theory into practice with leadership training, Service Learning and an array of activities – all in a demographically, socioeconomically and linguistically diverse environment.
“Working with the SRC executive and during general assemblies, I developed skills to engage people in sharing ideas and decision-making. I also learnt to facilitate to ensure that everyone has an equal opportunity to make contributions and develop leadership skills.”
Our Curriculum
The IB curriculum at AKA Mombasa is tailored to your child’s age: the Primary Years Programme for junior students, the Middle Years Programme for Grades 6–10 and the Diploma Programme for the final two years at the Academy.
While strengthening our students’ intellect with our academic programme, we ensure that they are prepared for the future with an interdisciplinary approach suited to real-world problem-solving. They learn independently with self-directed, reflective work, and they collaborate with classmates across the Academies and with local communities to instigate positive change.
Students become literate in technology and computing, with opportunities to increase their proficiency in music and the arts. We teach in English and Kiswahili to produce bilingual graduates and to enable Grade 9 students to study in another country for a semester.
